Una Visita a Chile y la Pampa Salitrera de Tarapacá
Author: William Howard Russell
It is the chronicle of the trip to Chile made in 1890 by John Thomas North, nicknamed the “King of the Saltpeter”, made by the very prestigious journalist of the Times newspaper in London, William H. Russell.
This trip comes at a time when North’s companies in Chile were strongly questioned and threatened, so he decides to “invite” the most important chronicler of the time, known for telling the truth, although it bothers one or the other. Russell’s description of the places visited and the people of the country is remarkable and that is the strength of the book.
