Description

Carlos Lambert y la Innovación Tecnológica en la industria del Cobre de Chile durante el siglo XIX
Author: Ricardo Rees Jones

The first British mining investment project in Chile was presented to Minister Mariano Egaña in London in 1825. The Chilian Mining Association came to the country with miners from Cornwall and Wales and started working in the north. The principal director of the company was Charles Lambert, a young man who had studied at the École Polytechnique and the École des Mines de France. At that time the very abundant copper sulphides of the chilean deposits were discarded as unusable material in the clearings, because when melting them, a metal with the necessary purity was not achieved.
